I'm sure a lot of you are already aware, but for those of you who are not.  The Windows OS 7 beta is now open. You can download it and get your installation key here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx

There is a limited number of people who can beta test so if you want to download it soon. The beta doesn't expire until August so you'll have plenty of time to test it out.  Enjoy!

I installed windows 7 in virtual box on my machine here at home and played with it for a little while and then became disinterested with it, only so much you can do on windows yuh know? I might open it back up and install on games on it later and see how it goes.   Smiley

I really hope it is a lot better than Vista was.

It seems like XP was the fix for ME and windows 7 will be the fix for vista Wink

Is windows 7 really as good as some people claim? I mean, there was a lot of discontent with vista when it first came out but I really don't see that it is as bad as some people seem to think. Sure, it had some problems at the initial release but as of now I find vista quite more agreeable and stable than xp.

So could someone tell me if windows 7 is truly as awesome as people claim? If so, what is it precisely that's so good about it?

Yeah, I know, I know. I should just geek it out on a virtual machine and see for myself but I also should be reading Descarte's meditations and brush up on my predicate logic.

What version of Vista are you using and on what kind of hardware? I've heard it is pretty dependent on those things.

I'm not sure about the windows 7 thing, but it should be better because they are letting people test it and report back, so hopefully they properly manage all those suggestions, and some pretty cool and technical people submit a ton of them constantly, and make it the most awesome microsoft product ever.

al3xand3r,
I'm running 32-bit Windows Vista Ultimate on an XPS M1730 laptop.

You might be right that it would not run this well on a machine that couldn't handle it. I have a cute little netbook on xp as well. I'm pretty sure it would scream in agony if I tried vista on it.
